NCP raises voice on water crisis in Port Blair
Port Blair, Jan 21: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) of Andaman unit has raised voice against the frequent water crisis in South Andaman region.
'' People here are facing numerous problems due to inadequate supply of drinking water by the Port Blair Municipal Council,'' the party's president Uma Bharathy told UNI today.
Ms Bharathy had also written a letter to the PBMC's chairman expressing party's concern over the crisis situation '' The PBMC have started curtailing the water supply much before summer. People are getting water once in three days only.We apprehend what will happen during April and May,'' she said.
The party in a letter to the Lt Governor had requested him to direct the PBMC to restore normal supply of drinking water.
The party had also threatened the council to go for mass agitations here if normal supply of drinking water is not resumed.
Meanwhile the PBMC officials have clarified that the council is only responsible for distribution of drinking water released by the Andaman Public Works Department.
The curtailment was announced following the fast receeding water level at Dhanikhari Dam, the lone water reservoir in the region, due to inadequate rainfall last year.
