MP achieves 110 pc success in BCP
Bhopal, Jan 21: Continuous efforts of the Madhya Pradesh Government to bring down blindness rate in the state as a part of the blindness control programme has met with 110 per cent success for the second consecutive year.
As many as 1,21,307 cataract operations were performed till last month against a target of 1,09,929 operations.
The state government was making continuous efforts to bring down the blindness rate in the state, an official release said here today.
In 2005-06, 2,74,619 operations were performed against a target of 2,50,000 operations, while 95 per cent IOL lens transplantation target was achieved.
In the current year, 92 per cent IOL lens transplantation target had been achieved till date, whereas 110 percent of the cataract operation target had been achieved till November.
In order to provide eye medical treatment facilities to people of remote areas, a target to establish a vision center over 50,000 population had been fixed by the government for the next year.
Eighty vision centers would be set up by the end of this year and people would be encouraged towards eye donation.
Under the school screening, 23 lakh school students went through eye check up in 2005-06 against a target of 18 lakh thus achieving 128 percent of the target. Vision defects were found in 38,333 students and spectacles were distributed free of cost to 12,233 students.
As regard to the target allotted for cataract operations for SC, ST and backward class category and women belonging to the poor section, 99 and 51 per cent achievement respectively had been registered till date in the current year, the release added.
