Another chilly Sunday, cold wave could intensify in coming week

New Delhi, Jan 21 (UNI) Delhiites today woke up to another chilly Sunday as cold North Westerly winds led to a sharp drop in mercury in the Capital.

The residents of the city were send "in a freeze" for the third consecutive Sunday this month as the cold winds brought down the minimum temperature today to 6.8 degrees Celsius, from 8.2 degrees yesterday.

The maximum also dropped to 20.3 degrees C, from 21.4 degrees yesterday.

While the minimum at 6.8 degrees C was one degree below normal, the maximum too was one degree below normal.

Meanwhile, visibility levels in the city continued to remain normal with only a slight mist witnessed this morning.

Delhi has been experiencing a severe chill for the past three weeks with minimum temperatures during the previous Sunday hovering around the five degrees Celsius mark.

The coming week too could witness an intensification of the chill with the weathermen forecasting a fall in night temperatures by one to two degrees over the plains of North West India during the next one or two days.

The weather office has forecast a drop in minimuim temperature to 5 degrees C tomorrow. Also, the BBC has forecast a drop in minimum temperature to as low as three degrees C on Tuesday under the influence of cold North Westerly winds.

Infact, the Capital could witness a chilly Republic Day this year with the met office forecasting that a fresh Western disturbance could effect North West India from Wednesday onwards. A drop in minimum temperature to 3 degrees C has been forecast for Thursday, the day before the Republic Day.
