R S Gill appointed DGP of Punjab

Chandigarh, Jan 20 (UNI) Mr R S Gill, a 1973 batch IPS officer, has been appointed Punjab Director General of Police, official sources said tonight.

He succeeds Mr S S Virk, who was removed from the post on the Election Commission's orders.

Mr Gill's name was selected from a panel of names sent to the EC by the Punjab Government.

Mr Gill was holding the post of DGP, Punjab Armed Police (PAP).
