Bring separate laws for the IT sector: CITU
Bangalore, Jan 20 (UNI) Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) President M K Pandhe today demanded separate labour laws for Information Technology sector to improve the working conditions of the employees.
Speaking to newspersons here today, he said the Centre had come out with a report on the IT sector and had compared the working conditions of the IT professionals to hard labour practiced in the 19th century. The Labour department had given the report in this regard after studying various places like New Delhi and Noida.
CITU had received numerous shocking complaints from IT workers like long working hours even up to 14 hours despite being paid low wages.
Stating that the government had not given enough representations to trade unions in forming the 11th Five Year Plan, he said trade unions had collectively demanded the allotment of more funds for the social sector.
He said CITU condemned government for extending concessions to industry practicing 'hire and fire' policy.
The government had failed to implement the National Common Minimum Programme, he said adding that it should soon convert the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to National Rural-Urban Employment Guarantee Act as promised by it.
