UP govt. gives services extension to medical teachers

Lucknow, Jan 19 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to extend the services of teachers of the medical colleges for two years after their retirement, on a selective basis.

Earlier, it was decided to extend the retirement age of the medical teachers from 60 to 62 years, which was, however, turned down by the state cabinet.

The decision taken in the state cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav here, approved that the extension for two years to the retired teachers of the medical colleges would be given on selective basis.

The cabinet turned down the decision of extending the retirement age as the state finance, law and personnel departments had commented that it will create dissatisfaction among the employees and other departments would demand for such an extension.

Sources said the state government had started filling up the vacant post of the professor, lecturers, readers following the recommendations of the Tikku Committee.

However, the government's idea to appoint professors on contractual basis was unsuccessful as very few retired doctors went for it.

As per records, 51 senior teachers of the medical colleges, mostly in the post of professor, will retire till March, 2009.
