PWD (public health) will now be PWD (water and sanitation)

Chandigarh, Jan 19 (UNI) The Public Works Department (PWD-Public Health) will now be known as PWD (Water Supply and Sanitation) in Haryana.

A decision to this effect was taken by the state Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda here today.

The Cabinet approved the proposal of PWD (Public Health) to change its nomenclature as PWD ( Water Supply and Sanitation).

The decision to bring this change was felt as the name of Public Health Department gave an impression of a department being connected with health activities, where as there is a separate Health Department in the state. Also, in rural areas, the common man finds it difficult to differentiate between Health Department and Public Health Department.

In a few states, the department undertaking the work of water supply and sewerage is called by the name of Water Supply and Sanitation Department.
