Patil to review tsunami rehab prog in TN, Pudducherry

New Delhi, Jan 19 (UNI) Home Minister Shivraj Patil will visit Puducherry and Tamil Nadu tomorrow to review implementation of the tsunami Rehabilitation Programme.

He will be accompanied by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and Minister of State for Home S Regupathy.

Mr Patil will visit some tsunami-affected villages in Puducherry.

He will also meet the Lt. Governor and Chief Minister of Puducherry.

In Chennai, the Home Minister will review the progress of rehabilitation of tsunami victims at a meeting with state authorities. He will also meet the Governor and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

A multi-sectoral long-term Tsunami Rehabilitation Programme with a financial outlay of Rs 9870.25 crore is under implementation over a period of four years from 2005-06 to 2008-09. The Programme covers housing, communication, power, fisheries and livelihood.

Tamil Nadu, Pudducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands were the worst affected by the tsunami which claimed thousands of lives and damaged property worth crores of rupees.
