MHA seeks Delhi Govt's response on Afzal case
New Delhi, Jan 19: Union Home Ministry has sought the views of Delhi government on the clemency petition filed by Mohd Afzal, who is facing death sentence in the Parliament attack case.
The MHA had a few queries regarding Afzal's mercy petition, responses to which were in the process of being prepared, Delhi Administrator A R Kidwai said here.
After the Supreme Court turned down his 'curative' petition, processing of Afzal mercy petition pending before President A P J Abdul Kalam, which had been halted because he had moved the apex court, was re-started.
And in this connection the home ministry, which advised the President on such matters, had sought the response of the state government, where the incident had occurred.
Afzal's hanging, fixed for October 20 last, had been put off in light of a mercy petition filed before the President by his family members. Later, Afzal himself sought clemency from the President.
Nine security personnel were killed in the terrorist attack on Parliament, the citadel of India democracy, on December 13, 2001.
