India lodges protest with Pakistan on Akhnoor firing
New Delhi, Jan 18 (UNI) India has taken up with Pakistan the matter of firing by Pakistani Rangers on Border Security Force (BSF) jawans in Akhnoor sector in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday and asked for a flag meeting between the two security forces.
An External Affairs Ministry spokesman, while expressing concern at the incident in which two BSF jawans were injured, said here today that the matter had been taken up by the Ministry through the Pakistan High Commission based here and through the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
''We have already taken up this matter and expressed concern at this incident of firing by Pakistan Rangers which took place yesterday in the Akhnoor Sector. We have requested that the Pakistan Rangers be directed to accept the request of the BSF for a flag meeting at an early date to resolve this issue and prevent any recurrences,'' the spokesman added.
