Chandigarh, Jan 19 (UNI) Lawyers today boycotted work and protested outside the courts, against the police's ''inaction'' in registering the case of an advocate's son, who was attacked by three unidentified people last night.

Following the protests, police have registered a case against three unidentified persons under sections 307, 341, 323 and 34 of IPC.

According to victim's father Jagdish Chand Sharma, his 26-year-old son Gaurav was dragged out of his car by three unidentified persons last night when he was returing home around 2030 hrs after studying in the library. The assailants attacked him with rods and sharp-edged sickle, injuring him seriously, he added.

Mr Sharma said the attackers left Gaurav near a nullah in sector 23. When he regained consciousness, Gaurav informed his father who rushed him to the Goverment hospital.

The matter was reported to the police last night by the hospital authorities but it did not register a case, Mr Sharma said. His colleagues, however, took up the cudgels on his behalf, forcing the police to take up the matter, he added.
