ULFA again warns Hindi-speaking people to leave Asom

Guwahati, Jan 18 (UNI) The banned United Liberation Front of Asom has issued a fresh warning to Hindi-speaking people to leave the state, or face ''tough action.'' The ULFA, through their mouthpiece 'Freedom', warned the Hindi-speaking people in Asom to leave, threatening them of 'tough action'. The fresh threat hightened panic and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has convened a cabinet meeting later to night to take stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, the death toll in yesterday's bomb blast in Ganeshguri late last night mounted to three, with two more succumbing to injuries late at night.

This afternoon, angry protestors blocked one of the main roads of the city in protest against the killing. They demanded that the Chief Minister visit them.

On the other hand, the powerful All Assam Students Union has warned the outlawed ULFA to refrain from accusing the students leaders' of being ''stooges of the government machinery.'' The outlawed ULFA had accused AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya of acting as a 'dalal' (agent) of the Indian government'.

Taking exception to ULFA chief Paresh Baruah's remark, AASU general secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi told reporters, ''We cannot stoop so low. We want to warn ULFA chief Paresh Baruah in decent language to refrain from making any such remark in future. The ULFA is fighting for sovereign Assam. We simply do not agree with it.'' MORE UNI
