BJP to go alone in UP polls: Kalyan Singh

Varanasi, Jan 18 (UNI) Hinting on differences between the Uttar Pradesh BJP and party's central leadership, former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh today made it clear the saffron party is not in favour of any alliance in the coming elections in state.

''We will contest all 403 assembly constituencies on our own. The state unit is not in favour of any alliance, but if the central leadership takes any decision regarding National Democratic Alliance partners we will have to go by it,'' Mr Singh, also the projected Chief Ministerial candidate of the party, told mediapersons here this evening.

BJP president Rajnath Singh had told the media in Varanasi on Sunday last that the state party leadership was free to strike alliance with even non-NDA parties if it thought such a measure to be necessary.

''BJP is going to contest the UP assembly election on all the 403 seats alone. We will give tickets to only candidates with clean image and the decision on fielding sitting MLAs in the next election will be taken soon,'' Mr Singh added.

Terming the resignation by RLD ministers in UP as ''political drama,'' Mr Singh said both Congress and RLD were indulging in double standards by first supporting the Mulayam Singh government and then raising a dissenting voice over its functioning. ''If BJP brings a no confidence vote in the assembly against the government, both Congress and RLD will be the first ones to come to the rescue of Mulayam Singh government,'' he added.

The BJP national vice-president, however, said that if the BSP brought a no confidence vote against the government in the assembly, ''our party will support it.'' Reiterating the BJP demand that elections be held under P resident's rule, Mr Singh said the Nithari serial killing incident has shown that there is no rule of law in the state and hence dreaming of free and fair polls in the state was foolish. ''We assure the Congress that all 138 BJP MPs will vote in support, whenever a resolution to impose central rule in UP is brought in the parliament.'' Alleging that an influential UP politician was helping in shielding the Nithari killers from police, Mr Singh said ''we now expect that the CBI probe in both Nithari and Kavita Rani murder case will not only bring to book the culprits but also expose the influential politicians involved in the two crimes.''
