Police directed to produce Udupi seer accuser in court
Bangalore, Jan 17 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed Assistant Commissioner of Police G T Naik to produce before the court on January 23 Mr Venkatesh, who had filed an attempt to murder case against Udupi Pejavar mutt seer and his sister..
Mr Justice H L Dattu and Justice Anand Byrareddy passed the order on a habeas corpus petition, filed by Rukmini's (seer's sister) son S Srinidhi.
Mr Venkatesh had filed a private complaint before the First Additional CMM, Bangalore, against Udupi Pejavar mutt seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji, his sister and some others, alleging that the pontiff had threatened him with dire consequences as his friend, also Venkatesh, had not returned a loan of Rs 12 lakh taken from the seer.
The petitioner contended that after the details of the complaint were published in the media on January 7, police took the duo into custody under the pretext of enquiry and harassed them.
It was stated on behalf of the prosecution that the detenues were taken for investigation regarding several complaints filed against them in various police stations, alleging financial frauds.
