Mizoram governor worried to drug and HIV threat
Aizawl, Jan 17 (UNI) Mizoram governor Lt Gen (Retd) M M Lakhera called the people of the state to fight against the menace drugs and HIV/AIDS threat in the state.
In an interaction with the media persons yesterday, Mr Lakhera expressed concern over prevalent drug abuse and the spread of HIV/AIDS in the state.
Governor said that drug abuse and HIV/AIDS have become a threat to the present Mizo society and it has to be fought against the menace.
Mizoram is an important transit point in drug trafficing and youths are vulnerable to drug abuse, he said.
''We have to build public opinion and fight against the menace and should not allow the major transit point to turn in a major selling point," Mr Lakhera advised.
Beside, government efforts civil society should come up against spread drugs and HIV/AIDS, he pointed out adding that infiltration of Myanmarese plays a major role in Mizoram so far as drug trafficing is concern.
He also stressed on the suggestion of his predecessor Mr A R Kohli regardingd mass blood test in every village of Mizoram to ensure the HIV prevalence.
