New Delhi, Jan 17 (UNI) MCD Commissioner A K Nigam today appeared before the Delhi High Court and submitted that he would take action against three officials, who allegedly had accepted Rs 2.5 lakh as bribe for not to demolish an illegal structure at Subhash Nagar in West Delhi.

A division bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Rekha Sharma asked Mr Nigam, who was personally present during the hearing, to state the reasons for not initiating disciplinary action against three officials identified as Sharma, Bhardwaj (both Junior Engineers) and Chandiram(beldar) who were allegedly accepted bribe from Vinod Bajwa of Subhash Nagar for not demolishing his illegal building.

On November 17, appearing before the High Court, Bajwa had alleged that he had paid Rs 2.5 lakh as bribe to two Junior Engineers and one class-IV employee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD) to save his building from demolition in West Delhi.

Bajwa, the resident of 11/1 Subhash Nagar near Rajouri Garden, said that he had allegedly paid the bribe to the MCD officials named as Sharma, Bhardwaj and Chandiram to save his building.

The High Court had asked the MCD to initiate action against the officials.

However, the MCD also submitted that the matter had been referred to the police for a probe.

On November 14, the High Court had directed the MCD authorities not to demolish the building, which was claimed to have been constructed before January 1, 2006.

The court had asked the MCD to file a reply to the petition filed by its owner claiming the action of the authorities as illegal and unauthorised.

Vinod's mother Rekha Bajwa, alleged that the MCD authorities had demolished about 70 per cent of the building which was constructed much before the enactment of the law by Parliament.

In another related matter, the court asked the Delhi government to state the policy on regularisation of illegal colonies in the capital.

When the matter pertaining to Rama Road illegal colony came up for hearing, the Court asked the authorities to state the reasons for not regularising the colony of 100 acres.

The plots in Rama Road were earlier allotted for setting up industrial units, but later the businessmen sold the plots after subdividing them for residential purposes.
