Mamata released from nursing home after 20 days
Kolkata, Jan 17(UNI) Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee was released from nursing home today almost three weeks after she called off her 25-day hunger strike.
Ms Banerjee, who was admitted to the South Kolkata nursing home on December 28, underwent treatment for various ailments she developed during the prolonged fast which she launched in protest against acquisition of agricultural land at Singur for Tata Motors's small car project.
She was in the ICU for a long period and initially put under oxygen support under the observation of a board of seven doctors.
Following subsequent tests, the doctors attending on the Trinamool leader detected liver dysfunction and few other problems. She also complained of profound weakness because of lack of nourishment.
However, nursing home sources said she was now in a stage to be released.
Front ranking Trinamool Congress leaders and a host of party supporters were present when Ms Banerjee was released.
