Shimla, Jan 17 (UNI) Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister P K Dhumal today demanded a probe by sitting High Court judge in the alleged irregularities in the recruitment of dental doctors in the state, saying preference was given to residents and people who had completed their studies outside the state instead of Himachali doctors.

''Merit and seniority has been given a go by in the recruitment of doctors in the entire recruitment process after scrapping the first interview held much earlier,'' he said in a release here.

Mr Dhumal said doctors who had completed their courses between 1995 and 1998 were ignored, while doctors who were into house jobs for a few months only had been recruited.

Candidates who have completed their degrees from the Shimla Dental College have been ignored, while residents and doctors from outside the state were giving preference in the recruitment, he said.

Accusing the government of given preferential treatment to a few doctors in the general category, he said candidates who had scored marks between 54 to 58.4 per cent were given marks between 37 and 41 in the interview, while those who were had qualified the examination in first class were given marks between 23 to 28 only and elbowed out.

He said this preferential treatment was not reserved for doctors in the general category only, adding that in the reserved category, doctors who had scored 55 per cent marks were given 34 marks, while those who had scored 58 per cent marks were given 24 marks in the interview.
