CITU gives call for unity of world trade unions

Bangalore, Jan 17 (UNI) Centre of Indian Trade Unions President M K Pandhe today called for greater unity among world trade unions, irrespective of their ideological differences, to end all forms of exploitations in the globalised era.

In his presidential address at the 12th All India CITU conference here, he alleged that 16 years of globalisation had inflicted severe miseries on the working class and the common man all over the world and downsized manpower to cut down costs on the plea of becoming competitive in the global market. Increase in working hours and deterioration in working condition have become the order of the day, he added.

Globalisation had brought together the capitalist class, but the working class was still divided and a clear cut policy of struggle was yet to be evolved at the global level, he said.

Mr Pandhe said the present situation demanded that the working class champion the vital interests of all the toiling sections so that it could play a leading role in the struggle to oppose the policies of globalistion.

''It is also necessary to develop common struggles of the working class and the peasantry so that our resistance becomes much more powerful and the ruling class cannot ignore us,'' he said.

Criticising the UPA Government's policies, Mr Pandhe said the unemployment situation in the country had worsened in urban and rural areas, despite passing of the Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

''I am sure this 12th conference will deal with all the aspects of challenges faced by us and chalk out ways to effectively tackle the situation. The present stage of capitalist development in the form of neo-liberal globalisation is not sustainable and working class and toiling masses all over the world are bound to rise against all the machinations of monopoly capital,'' he said.

Delegates from across the country and overseas were taking part in the five-day conference, which began here today.
