Bharti Foundation wins 'Golden Peacock Award' for CSR

Mumbai, Jan 17 (UNI) The Bharti Foundation received the coveted 'Golden Peacock Award' for the corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), 2006 in the NGO category.

The award has been instituted to encourage initiatives in the CSR by the Centre for social responsibilities supported by the Institute of Directors (IOD), the Centre for Corporate Governance (CFCG) and the World Council For Corporate Governance (WCFCG), UK.

The Bharti Foundation was chosen as the winner by an eminent jury chaired by Justice P N Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of India and Member UN Human Rights Commission. The award was given away by Swami Ramdevji, a release issued here said today.

Expressing happiness over receiving the award, Mr Badri Agarwal, Bharti Foundation President said, ''We are extremely delighted to be recognised for our initiatives aimed at providing quality education to underprivileged children. Our vision is to help underprivileged children and make young people of our country realise their potential and this award will spur us to broaden and deepen the reach of our activities in the days to come.'' The Satya Bharti School Programme with an objective to provide quality primary education to the needy at low cost, Bharti Computer Centres and Bharti Library programme for underprevilaged children, Bharti Scholarships for higher education and Bharti School of Telecommunication Technology and Management at IIT-Delhi to develop young Telecom leader were some of the initiatives considered by the eminent jury for the award undertaken by the Bharti Foundation.
