6.89 lakh fake currencies recovered in Mizoram
Aizawl, Jan 17 (UNI) About Rs 6.89 lakh fake Indian currencies were recovered from Bairabi village along the Mizoram-Asom border this morning with the arrest of three people.
Police here said one of the accused was from Hailakandi of South Asom and others were Mizos residing at the Mizoram-Bangladesh border.
Acting on a tip-off, the police carried out search operations in Bairabi village and arrested them along with the currencies.
''We are investigating into the matter to identify fake notes dealers who may have links with international currency smuggling rackets,'' the police said adding that cross-border movements of smugglers were also reportedly increasing. With regard to this, the BSF intensified vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh and the Indo-Myanmar borders.
It is the second seizure of fake currencies in the state this week after the recovery of Rs 42,000 fake notes on Monday.
Police and SIB officials had recovered currencies worth three lakhs in the last month along the Asom-Mizoram border.
