6.89 Lakh fake currencies recovered in Mizoram

Aizawl, Jan 17 (UNI) About Rs 6.89 lakh fake Indian currencies were recovered from Bairabi village, along Mizoram-Asom border this morning, while police arrested three persons in this connection.

Police here said one of the accused was from Hailakandi of South Asom and others were Mizos residing Mizoram-Bangaldesh border.

Acting on a tip off, state police carried out search operations in Bairabi village and arrested the persons along with the currencies, police said.

''We are investigating into the matter to identify the fake notes dealers, who may have links international currency smuggling rackets'', sources said adding that cross border movements of smugglers were also reportedly increasing and accordingly the BSF intesified vigil along Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Myanmar border.

It is the second seizure of fake currencies in the state this week after recovery of Rs 42000 fake notes on Monday.

Police and SIB officials had recovered currencies worth three lakhs in past month along Asom-Mizoram border.
