TAC against slashing of ST seats proposed by delimitation commission
Ranchi, Jan 16 (UNI) The members of Tribal Advisory Council(TAC) today stood for maintaining status quo on Assembly seats belonging to the schedule tribes as recommended by the Delimitation Commission.
At present 28 seats of 82-member Jharkhand Assembly belonged to the STs.
TAC member Karia Munda said here that the decision of not reducing the seats was taken in a meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Madhu Koda, and he had been assigned to inform Governor Syed Sibtey Razi.
Mr Munda said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President A P J Abdul Kalam would also be sent separate letters in this matter.
The Commission's proposal, based on 2001 census, mentioned reduction of ST seat to 21 from 28.
