Paswan to revive sick units to meet national fertilser demand
Kolkata, Jan 16 (UNI) Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertiliser Ram Vilas Paswan said here today that he would revive six PSU fertilizer units to increase the production of fertilizer to 300 lakh tones by 2010 and meet the required national demand.
Speaking at a press conference here, the minister said, " We will revive six fertilizer units across the country to meet the national demand of urea. The current demand of urea in India is 250 lakh tones but there is shortage of 50 lakh tones which is imported.
In order to meet the shortage, " we will increase the production by reviving these units," he added.
Urea is the only fertilizer needed for industry and other purposes that is produced in India while MOP and DAP are imported from other countries.
Speaking about his revival plans for other units, he said he has plans to revive sick units like IDPL, Haldia Fertiler, Ramagundam, Singeri and Gorakhpur units among others.
