No deadline to resolve Siachin, Sir Creek: PM

Dibrugarh, Asom, Jan 16 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asserted today that Siachin and Sir Creek were "complicated" issues and that he would not be able to fix any deadline to resolve the issues with Pakistan.

"These are complicated issues... I cannot fix any deadline," he told mediapersons here after visiting the areas which witnessed killings by the insurgent ULFA last week.

Dr Singh, however, said every effort was being made to resolve the two issues with the neighbouring country.

Pointing out that a Joint Survey was underway in Sir Creek, he hoped that "they will lead to some fruitful results." In this context, he said External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee had discussed these issues in Pakistan.

"All these issues were under discussion," Dr Singh said.

Asked if Pakistan's ISI had any hand in the renewed violence by ULFA in which more than 60 migrant workers were killed in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts in Upper Asom since January five, the Prime Minister said "I don't want to comment about the involvement of other agencies." When a reporter asked if there was any link between the ULFA and militant outfits in Myanmar and Bangladesh, Dr Singh said he had talked to the Prime Minister of Myanmar about this only yesterday in Cebu in the Philippines. "We have exchanges our views on the need to intensify our cooperation in this area.

"I am assured that Myanmar would help in the operation against ULFA if adequate information is made available to them," he said.
