Meerut, Jan 16 (UNI) A four-member CBI team today reached here and started an investigation into the Chaudhary Charan Singh University's spokesperson Kavita Rani murder case.

According to official sources, the CBI team first went to Civil Lines Police Station and later questioned the caretaker of the hostel in which Kavita Rani resided.

The team also took into its possession all the documents related to the case.

The CBI team will also go to Bulandshahar for further investigation. Dr Kavita hailed from Dhansurpur village under Syana Police Station of Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh and since Diwali last year she had been missing.

Notably, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh had, on January 5, sought a CBI inquiry into the Nithari serial killings and the Kavita Rani murder case. While the Meerut Police had arrested prime accused Ravindar Pradhan, two other co-accused had surrendered in court.

The CBI inquiry into the case was sought by Mr Mulayam Singh after the names of one former minister and two others ministers surfaced in the case.
