Border cross firing
Basirhat, Jan 16 (UNI) Border Security Force and their counterpart BDR in Bangladesh were entangled with cross firing this evening creating a panic in the bordering Indian village of Nabadkati under Swarupnagar police station in North 24 Parganas this evening, police said.
Local police station in-charge along with a force rushed to the spot. Knowledgeable sources said that border guards of both the countries spent at least 100 rounds during cross firing for about two hours. No casualty was reported so far, police said.
The cross firing between the BSF of the Amudia camp and BDR was, however, began when when a local resident, said to be a brother of Nabadkati Gram Panchayet member Balaram Mandal (45)was shot down from a BSF firing following altercation between the BSF and a group local people allegedly involved in smuggling cattle.
