Top counter insurgent leader turned politician killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 15 (UNI) A top leader of counter insurgency group ''Ikhwan'' was killed by militants in north Kashmir this afternoon, official sources said.

They said militants shot at and critically wounded Abdul Rehman Parray from point blank range at Hajan main market in north Kashmir this afternoon.

The injured was immediately shifted to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Parray, alias Dilawar Khan, who had joined main opposition party National Conference (NC), was a close associate of founder of Ikhwan group late Mohammad Yousuf Parray, alias Kuka Parray.

A soldier was injured when militants attacked a patrol party at Shopian in south Kashmir today. Militants later managed to escape, sources added.
