Police say arrested Hizb commander involved in 11 killings
Srinagar, Jan 15 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police today claimed that the arrested district commander of the Pro-Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen was involved in the killing of eleven people.
Maqsood Ahmad Bhat alias Tariq alias Altaf Sheikh of Mamoosa Pattan was apprehended by the police from Pattan in north Kashmir district of Baramulla today.
The police said Bhat, a Hizb district commander, was active in north Kashmir since 1996 and involved in the killing of eleven people.
On his disclosure, the police seized an AK rifle along with two magazines from Lalpora Pattan.
The police said Bhat was responsible for the killing of Pattan Municipal Committee president Mohammad Ramzan, his two PSOs and a constable from whom he snatched two INSAS rifles on May 3, 2005.
They said he was also responsible for the killing of Ghulam Rasool Bhat of Goshwara Pattan on May 16, 2005. The deceased was the father of a muncipal councillor.
The police said he also killed Dr Reyaz Ahmed Bhat, a PDP Block President, on June 16, 2005, an assistant sub-inspector of police Ali Mohammed Malik on March 11 last year, Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar on December 24, 2006, and Sajjad Ahmed Mir on January 7 this year.
The police also added that Bhat also murdered two brothers Abdul Rashid Bhat and Mohammed Shafi Bhat in Pattan area.
