Lt Gen Aul pays tributes to martyrs on Army Day
Chandigarh, Jan 15 (UNI) Paying tributes to the valiant soldiers of the Army who laid down their lives for the country, Lt Gen A N Aul, Chief of Staff, HQ Western Command, laid wreath at Veer Smriti, the Command War Memorial at Chandimandir today.
Calling these soldiers as Army's pride, Lt Gen Aul said, ''They are our motivation for the future.'' All the senior Army officers of the Western Command eadquarters attended the solemn wreath laying ceremony. Every year, the Army celebrates January 15 as Army Day, which commemorates the day on which Field Marshal KM Cariappa assumed command of the Indian Army 59 years ago.
Extending greetings and good wishes to all ranks on the occasion, Lt Gen Daljeet Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command, in his message, has stated that the Western Command shoulders the defence of the nation's heartland. Further, General Singh has stated: ''I am confident that when the time comes to strike the enemy, the Western Army will 'Fight to Win' and live up to its traditions of valour and sacrifice, adding glorious chapters to its illustrious history.'' He further added, Firmly believe that in our quest for excellence, we will scale new heights with firm resolve and a requisite will. I am conscious that our ex-servicemen have devoted their lifetime in the service of the nation with attendant sacrifices and tribulations of tough service conditions. It would be our constant endeavour to fulfill our obligations in looking after their welfare. Towards this end, I count upon a positive and spontaneous response from each and every one of you we jointly galvanize our efforts''.
