Janta Dal(S) demands dismissal of state government

Bangalore, Jan 15 (UNI) Janata Dal (S) (headed by Surendra Kumar) state unit President H Ekantaiah today demanded the President of India to dismiss the state government headed by H D Kumaraswamy for its failure to perform the obligation duties in conducting the elections to the urban local bodies in the state.

Mr Ekantaiah told reporters here today that his party had submitted a memorandum to the Karnataka Governor yesterday to recommend President A P J Abdul Kalam to take action under Article 356 of the Constitution to dismiss the present government for not conducting the polls to more than 200 local bodies before the expiry of their duration.

No government could negate or tamper with the right to vote or contest by its wilful default and its efforts should be to hold elections before the expiry of the term of the democratic institutions as stipulated and not try to defer on some excuses, he said.

The apppointment of the administrators to various municipalities after the expiry of their duration for the continued excercise of their power of the state government as illegal and malafide and only to promote their interests of their political parties in power, he said.

The State Election Commission has repeatedly requested the state government to furnish the necessary information to enable to complete the elections before the expiry of their term and it has failed to comply with the request, he said.

He said his party had requested the state Governor T N Chaturvedi to send a report to the President regarding the break down of the constitutional machinery in the state.

Secretary General P G R Sindhia, who attended the News Confernece, said he would raise the issue during the Legislature session beginning on January 25.
