Indigenous Cryogenic stage to undergo test on Jan 19
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 15 (UNI) The indigenous Cryogenic stage will undergo a full-duration test on January 19 at the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) at Mahendragiri, Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) Chairman G Madhavan Nair said today.
Talking to newspersons at the airport here, Mr Nair said preparations for the 720-seconds-duration test were going on smoothly.
The successful testing of the cryogenic stage would mark India's position as the sixth country after the United States, Russia, Europe, Japan and China to possess the highly complex technology.
During the flight of the Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), the cryogenic stage will fire for 720 seconds.
Russian made cryogenic stage was used for the earlier four GSLV launches from the Satish Dhavan Space Centre at Sriharikota. If everything goes right, India would become totally self-reliant in putting a satellite weighing more than 2,500 kg into orbit.
