Govt beefs up security on eve of Dalai Lama's visit in Tripura

Agartala, Jan 15 (UNI) Security has been beefed up in this capital city as well as Sabroom in Tripura following Buddhist religious leader the Dalai Lama's four-day visit to the state from tomorrow.

Police told UNI here today, that since the religious leader is a VVIP, Z-plus security will be provided to him during his visit to the state during which he will participate in the laying of foundations stone for Dhamma Dipa Buddhist Cultural Complex at Manubankul under Sabroom sub-division in south district on Wednesday.

Besides the laying of foundation stone, he will take part in a number of programmes. The Dalai Lama would also give speeches to the Buddhists at the Venuban Buddha Vihar here on the teaching on introduction to Buddhism on Thursday.

Apart from this, the religious leader, the Noble Prize winner for his Global Peace efforts, would deliver speech at a public gathering at the Townhall here on the same day.

The Dalai Lama, who would arrive here from Kolkata tomorrow, would leave for Sabroom by Army Helicopter from the Airport as per the programme sent to the Chief Secretary by the External Affairs Lias on Office at Dharmashala in Himachal Pradesh.

The religious leader will be back at the capital on Thursday itself by helicopter after completion of all his programmes at Sabroom.

Besides, Z-plus category security, police, TSR jawans would be deployed to maintain any untoward incident and police would be put on patrolling duty and mobilise for the internal security, sources added.

The police officials, however, said that there is no threat from underground forces in the state as there was no movement of militants in Sabroom sub-division area nowadays. ''As the Noble prize Laurete is a VVIP, we are not going to take any chance regarding his security,'' officials informed.

The religious leader leaves here for Kolkata on January 19, sources added.
