Court directs CBI to inquire into Rs 40 lakh scam

Imphal, Jan 15 (UNI) Gauhati High Court has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to inquire into the misappropriation of Rs 40 lakhs which was sanctioned for a multi purpose project, here today.

Justice K Meruno of the Court's Imphal Bench, in an order issued recently, asked the CBI to submit a report on the matter within three months. The money was the first instalment of a hefty fund granted by World Vision International (WVI), US to United Team Leadership Ministry (UTLM), for the development of Zingsho (Eastern), Ukhrul under Ukhrul Area Development Project (UADP).

Meanwhile, 17 village chiefs of Ukhrul district had written a letter to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to help in finding the truth about the missing money.
