Chief justice issues directives to end stalemate in lower court
Kolkata, Jan 15 (UNI) Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Bhaskar Bhattacharya today issued directives to restore normalcy in Jalpaiguri court, crippled by a month-long agitation for opening of the circuit bench.
Justice Bhattacharya, assuming charge this morning, took up the issue suo moto and passed the ruling asking the district administration to act immediately for restoring normalcy in the courts of the district where the high court circuit bench would start functioning shortly.
The agitation, started by a section of lawyers and court employees, has been continuing for a about a month demanding immediate functioning of the curcuit bench.
The court also sought a report from the district administration on the statemate which had resulted in lakhs of pending cases.
The state government had planned to open a circuit bench in Jalpaiguri, headquarters of the district, on an apex Court order.
