3 persons crushed to death in road accident in Navi Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 15 (UNI) Three persons, including two women, were today crushed to death under the wheels of a jeep while they were taking a walk at CBD Belapur in Navi Mumbai.

Police said Mr Naku Ganpat Gaokar(60), Ms Jaishree Mahagade(46) and Ms Lata Suresh Kedare(45), all residents of Sanpada in Navi Mumbai, were taking a morning walk on the roadside between Vashi and CBD Belapur around 0700 hours, when a jeep, donated to the police by the Agricultural Produce Marketing Commission (APMC), crushed them under it's wheels.

The driver of the vehicle, S S Surve has been arrested and a case has been registered under sections 289 and 304 (a) of the Motor Vehicles Act for negligent conduct and causing death by negligence, respectively, police said.

''S S Surve is not a police personnel, but a private driver,'' they clarified.
