Wheat colouration in Punjab due to low temperatures

Ludhiana, Jan 14 (UNI) The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have asked the farmers of Punjab and Haryana not to panic if they notice a purple and yellow colouration on their wheat crop.

The colouration in some wheat fields is due to the low temperature prevailing in the states for the last many days, a PAU release said today while quoting survey reports.

Mistaking these symptoms as nutritional deficiencies, some farmers are applying fertilisers irrespective of PAU recommendations. The scientists said that this problem is due to less availability of nutrients at low temperatures.

They have advised the farmers to stick to the recommended fertiliser schedule.

The scientists have advised the farmers to go for irrigation of the fields to counter the effect of the low temperature.

The scientists have also warned the farmers not to use herbicides/pesticides which have not been recommended for the control of gulli danda (Phalaris Minor) in wheat crop. They have informed that University has clearly recommended the use of herbicides that inluse Leader/SF-10, TOPIK/Point/Rakshak Plus/Moolah, Puma Power and Atlantis.
