Tension in Kamptee after desecration of idols
Nagpur, Jan 14 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Kamtpee town, about 20 kilometres from here, over alleged desecration of idols of 'Lord Hanuman' and 'Serpent God' besides a trident in a temple today.
Police said protestors staged an impromptu 'rasta roko' at Jaistambh Chowk in the town after devotees visiting the place of worship this morning noticed the damage to the idols and the religious symbol. The temple priest immediately alerted the Nagpur district rural police, who deployed 100 additional personnel to maintain law and order.
The handful of shops, usually kept open on Sundays, downed their shutters after tension gripped the town, the police said.
