Police fires six rounds to disperse furious mob
Barrackpore, Jan 14 (UNI) West Bengal police fired six rounds in air to disperse the furious mob that set fire on the New Town police camp under Rajarhat police station in North 24 parganas today following an accident, in which about six children sustained major injuries.
Police also resorted to lathicharge and fired a few tear gas shells.
North 24 Parganas Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar said about ten miscreants, who tried to set the police camp on fire, were arrested.
Police said the accident occurred when a Maruti car knocked against a few children, while overtaking a lorry near the bridge at Rajarhat today.
The children were soon admitted to a nearby hospital at Baguiati near here.
The incident had led to unrest in the whole area after a few agitators staged demonstrations by blocking the roads.
Police had resorted to lathi charge and fired some tear gas shells to disperse the mob, officials police said.
Senior police officials and local MLA Robin Mondal have also rushed to the spot to pacify the situation.
