Lok Adalat for Public Utility Services set-up at Gurgaon

Gurgaon, Jan 14 (UNI) A permanent Lok Adalat pertaining to Public Utility Services was inaugurated here yesterday by the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Vijender Jain.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was present on the occasion.

In his inaugural address, Justice Jain said a common man affected by the services of public utilities in his day-to-day life needed immediate redressal of his grievances. He said the setting up of Adalat for Public Utility Services would provide speedy and inexpensive justice.

He said there was a plan to set up two more such Adalats at Ambala and Rohtak in the near future.

The Chief Justice called upon the judicial officers to make Rural Lok Adalats in Haryana an effective system of resolution of disputes so that rural population might get speedy and inexpensive justice at their door step.

He also called for adopting new methods for speedy and effective dispensation of justice system so that a common man did not loose faith in the judicial system. He also stressed upon the need for setting up of mobile courts, especially in the area of Mewat so that people may get justice at their door step.

On the occasion, Mr Hooda made an appeal to the lawyers to help the litigants and even to provide free legal services to poor people. He also appreciated the role of Haryana State Legal Services Authority in providing free legal services to the needy and stressed upon the need for resolving of disputes of villagers through the medium of Rural Lok Adalats.

He also assured to extend full c-operation in the setting up of Mobile Courts in the state.

The Member Secretary of the Legal Services Authority, Mr Shekhar Dhawan disclosed that this was the second Permanent Lok Adalat pertaining to Public Utility Services for dealing with matters relating to transport services, for the carriage of passengers or goods by air , road or water; postal, telegraph or telephone service; supply of power, light or water to the public by any establishment; system of public conservancy or sanitation; service in hospital or dispensary; insurance service pending/instituted in the various districts under the divisional headquarters in the revenue division of its location.

The first Lok Adalat pertaining for the Public Utility Services was established at Hisar in April last year.
