Jai Balaji group to set up mega steel plant, invest Rs 18,000 cr
Kolkata, Jan 14 (UNI) Close on the heels of the Sajjan Jindal promoted JSW Steel's 10 million tonne proposed steel plant in Salboni, Jai Balaji Group, a Kolkata based company, will set up an integrated steel plant with an investment of Rs 18,000 crore.
West Bengal Commerce and Industry Secretary Dr Sabyasachi Sen told UNI today,''The company had been scouting for land for this 50 lakh tonnes steel plant for quite sometime. We have shown them about 4,500 acres of land in Raghunathpur area in Purulia district, which has been agreed upon in-principle.'' The plant, with the capacity of 50 lakh tonnes, would also have a captive cement and power plants, he said.
''We want the company to set up the plant in Purulia district as it is well connected by road and rail links. The district has adequate power and water resources as well,'' Dr Sen said.
''However, the project is at a preliminary stage. Several other steps would be required before the project takes off,''he added.
The Balaji Group has a MS Ingot manufacturing unit having an installed capacity of 78,720 MTPA with four furnaces of a capacity of six tonnes each at Durgapur and Burdwan in West Bengal.
The company is currently in the process of setting up a captive power plant with a capacity of 12 MW at its plant in Ranigunj and coal washery plant of 360,000 MTPA and ferro alloy plant of 30,118 MTPA.
