Free LPG connection for 3 lakh BPL families in TN: Murali
Chennai, Jan 14 (UNI) Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Murali Deora today said the Centre would provide about three lakh free LPG connections for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking at a function organised for free distribution of LPG connection and Gas stoves to families here, he said ''following a request from Tamil Nadu government it has been decided to provide about three lakh free LPG connection to BPL families.'' ''Apart from this, a piped natural gas supply project will also be launched very soon in Tamil Nadu for two crore households like in Mumbai and Delhi''he added.
''This will not only improve the quality of gas but there won't be any shortage of LPG supply in Tamil Nadu'', Me Deora said and further the Centre would set up more gas bottling plants in coming months to meet the demand for LPG.
Mr Deora also urged the Tamil Nadu government to consider using CNG in for public transport to reduce the increasing pollution in the cities.
''I expect Tamil Nadu to join Delhi and Mumbai to setup CNG in public tranport'' he added.
On the petrol and diesel price, the Minister said the Centre was keen to reduce the petrol and diesel price whenever the international oil prices went down.
