Patna, Jan 14 (UNI) The CPI(ML) today demanded resignation of Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in the wake of the recent killings of Biharis.

Member of central committee of the party and former MP Rameshwar Prasad, who arrived here after an on-the-spot assessment in Asom, told mediapersons that the Tarun Gogoi government had miserably failed in protecting the lives and property of Hindi-speaking people there.

''Mr Gogoi is only interested in extracting political mileage from the series of gory incidents triggered by ULFA militants claiming lives of more than 50 Biharis in Asom, ''he said.

Mr Prasad also lambasted the Nitish Kumar government for its ''failure'' to check large scale exodus of Bihari labourers to other states in search of livelihood.

He said the NDA government was only making tall announcements while the ground realities remained unchanged.

''The Bihar government should give a compensation of Rs five lakh to the dependents of the victims killed by ULFA militants in Asom,'' he demanded saying the state government should take steps for constitution of a special cell to monitor the security and safety for Bihari labourers working in different parts of the country.
