Seventh Delhi Sustainable Summit to begin from January 22
New Delhi, Jan 13 (UNI) The seventh chapter of the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS), an annual intetrnational event that begins here from January 22, will explore the natural resource dimensions to sustainable development.
Titled 'Meeting the MDGs: Exploring the Natural Resource Dimensions', the summit this year would bring the finest minds of the world together to deliberate upon and set forth paradigms and approaches of sustainable development.
Organized by TERI, India's leading research and development institute, since 2001, DSDS has emerged as the only forum on global sustainability issues with an accentuated thrust on problems relating to the developing world.
The summit series attracts participation from a host of dignitaries worldwide, comprising heads of governments, Nobel laureates, corporate leaders, and ministerial-level representation from more than 25 countries around the world.
Besides Sir Nicholas Stern, Head of Stern Review on Economics of Climate Change, Head of the Government Economic Service, UK, some of the prominent names this year include Mr Kjell Magne Bondevik, former Prime Minister of Norway; Lord John Browne, Group Chief Executive, BP, UK; Dr Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, President of Iceland; Mr Jeffrey Immelt, Chairman and CEO, General Electric Company, USA; Dr Jose Antonio Ocampo, Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, United Nations and Prof. Jeffrey D Sachs, Director, The Earth Institute, Columbia University, USA.
In additoion to them, Dr Shoichiro Toyoda, Honorary Chairman /Member of the Board, Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan; Ms Tarja Halonen, President of Finland; Dr Bindu N Lohani, Director General - Regional and Sustainable Development Department, Asian Development Bank; Mr Vikram Singh Mehta, Chairman, Shell Group of Companies in India among many others will also participate in the conference.
