Prez, PM greet people on Lohri, Sankranti, Pongal

New Delhi, Jan 13: President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime MinisterManmohan Singh today greeted the people on the occasion of Lohri, MakarSankranti and Pongal, wishing them prosperity, happiness and joy.

''On the occasion of Makara Sankranti and Pongal, I extend mygreetings and felicitations to all my fellow citizens and wish themhappiness and prosperity.

''Makara Sankranti and Pongal are symbolic of the happiness of ourpeople for the coming of the harvest seasons. May these festivals whichrepresent India's emotional unity, continue to drive our people to workfor the progress of the nation,'' Dr Kalam said.

In his message, Dr Singh said these festivals were a celebrationof the joy and prosperity which were ushered in by fresh harvest.

''Agriculture and farming are closely linked to our ethos, cultureand lifestyle. These festivals celebrate this intrinsic link which isnecessary for us to maintain even as we move ahead in the modern era.May these festivals bring prosperity, happiness and joy for all,'' thePrime Minister said.
