Lucknow, Jan 13 (UNI) In a first ever dharna by the agitating Provincial Civil Services (PCS) officers in Uttar Pradesh, the PCS Association today gave the Mulayam Singh Yadav government two weeks' time to response to their five-point charter of demands.

The PCS officers staged the dharna at the Patel statue near Hazratganj for about an hour, even after the state government urged them not to do so.

Later calling off the agitation, Association president Baba Hardeo Singh said they had given two weeks' time to the state government to consider their demands.

''We will launch an agitation, if the government does not consider our demands within the stipulated time,'' he added.

Several officials including special secretaries, additional DM and others had participated in the brief dharna.

The PCS Association is agitating for the last couple of years demanding appointment of the cadre to the post of DM, direct appointment to the post of ADM, promotion opportunities at 12 years, 16 years, 20 years and 22 years, regular holding of Departmental Promotion Selection (DPS) and giving them grade of Rs 10,000-15,300 after five years in service.
