Bhopal, Jan 13 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government has fixed the interim fee for the first year MBBS and BDS courses in the private medical and dental colleges in the state for the current academic session.

The interim fee was fixed in compliance with the interim order of the Justice Gulab Gupta committee constituted following the Supreme Court directive, official sources said.

The private colleges can now charge annual fee of Rs 1.61 lakh for medical course and Rs 1.10 lakh for dental course, besides Rs 1,000 annually towards students fund. The colleges can also charge Rs 1200 once as hostel caution money, Rs 6000 as annual hostel fee, Rs 4500 as annual transport fee and Rs 800 as monthly mess charge and these are optional.

It was also decided that no institution should charge fee more than that was fixed by the government and would not seek any security deposit or bank guarantee from the students. The colleges were also directed to display the interim fee on notice boards.

If the Supreme Court decides the annual education charges at less than the interim fee in its final order, then the balance amount would be adjusted against the fee for 2007-08 and if the annual fee is on the higher side then the balance would be charged from students together with the fee for 2007-08.

The committee said those colleges charging fees more than the fixed fee would be considered in the profiteer category and the government would take stern action against such colleges and inform the Supreme Court and related council in this regard.

There are three medical colleges and ten dental colleges in the private sector in Madhya Pradesh. These were located in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Burhanpur.
