Gandhi video:Blocking of Youtube not ruled out

New Delhi, Jan 13 (UNI) Angered by an offensive video clip on Mahatma Gandhi posted on the internet site Youtube.com, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has written to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to take action.

A senior official in the Ministry did not rule out blocking of the website.

The controversial video shows a man dressed as Gandhi resorting to violence, carrying an automatic rifle, and doing a pole dance.

The teleacst of the video clip by two private channels IBN-7 and Sahara, evoked protest from several parts of the country.

The video was in a very bad taste which has offended the sensibilities of the whole nation and matter being taken up at the highest level, he said.

Yesterday, Information and Braodcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi had taken serious exception to the two channels' running the video clip saying that the action was tantamount to an assault on the dignity of the Father of the Nation.

He had directed his Ministry to give due cognizance to the matter and take necessary action as per law.

The Minister had further desired that the channels should tender a profound apology to the nation, by both the channels in their telecast during prime time.

The video was made by Gautham Prasad, an NRI based in the US. He has reported to have apologized for making the video clip.

Moreover, according to reports, Google Inc., the company that has recently bought over Youtube, said it had taken a serious view of the matter and was reviewing the clip to determine ''the best course of action.'' UNI NAZ MSJ VV1705
