Patna, Jan 13 (UNI) The CPI(ML) today demanded scrapping of Indo-US agreement on nuclear co-operation, saying it would prove disastrous for the country's nuclear programming.

Talking to reporters here, CPI(ML) General Secretary Deepankar Bhattacharya said his party was strongly opposing the Indo-US nuclear deal since the beginning of the preliminary talks between the two countries.

'' The government has ignored national interests during the negotiation on the deal, which is tantamount to compromising national sovereignty, '' he added.

Expressing concern over the large-scale acquisition of arable land for Special Economic Zone(SEZ) in the name of acclerating industrial development, he demanded immediate scrapping of Land Acquisition Act and said the British government had framed it to suit its interests during the colonial rule.

The same provision of that Act was now being used to acquire vast areas of land for SEZ, he stated.

The CPI(ML) would launch agitation in Bhojpur district on January 16, 17 and 18 in protest against the recent kidnapping of five children, he announced and lambasted the Nitish Kumar government for its ''failure'' in protecting the lives and property of the people.

The NDA government had failed to provide good governance despite its tall claims, he alleged and said the ''high handedness'' of the SAP jawans was creating a sense of insecurity among the people thereby defeating the very purpose for which it was raised, he said.

He announced that his party would organise 'human chain' at national level on January 25 to create awareness on the issues.

On March 23, the party would organise an ''Inquilab rally'' in New Delhi to highlight the issues of employment guarantee and land reforms, he informed.
