Cong wants to build Babri mosque near Ram Temple: VHP

Lucknow, Jan 13 (UNI) Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas member and former Lok Sabha MP Ram Vilas Das Vedanti today alleged that the Congress-led UPA government at the centre wanted to construct the Babri mosque near the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

''The Ayodhya visit of Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati for conducting 'parikrama' at the behest of the Congress recently was to get a glimpse of the place, where the Babri mosque could be constructed on the acquired land,'' Dr Vedanti claimed.

Addressing a news conference here, the former MP said the Shankaracharya visited the place on November 29 last at mid-night and later mentioned the Congress plan to the media.

However, the VHP leader asserted that in no way, a mosque could be built inside the ''cultural boundary'' of Ayodhya and the people of the country will protest naming of any mosque after Babur.

''The Shankaracharya has selected a place in the south of Kubeer Tila inside the 68 acre acquired land of Ram Janmabhoomi for the new mosque, which is also surrounded by Muslim population.'' Terming Swaroopanand Saraswati a ''Congress agent,'' he said on Congress President Sonia Gandhi's directive, the Shankaracharya had proposed the Combodian church model for the Ram Temple with 300 feet height.

''For this reason, except for five Mahants, none had joined his parikrama in November last. The VHP has all support for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya,'' he maintained.

He also criticised the Mulayam Singh Yadav government for its ''patronage of terrorists.'' Raising the issue of July 5, 2005 terrorist attack at Ayodhya, the seer said it was unforunate that the present UP government had made permanent grave of the five terrorists inside the 'Panch Kosi Parikrama'.

He said the court's verdict on the dispute over the Ram Temple issue was expected within the next two-three months as all evidence had proved there was no mosque at the spotbefore Babur's invasion.
